is perhaps one of the most popular mountain
activities in the warmer months. There are several
area golf courses and many championship golf courses
in the area.
In Banner Elk, there are some of the best golf
courses in the state. The Elk River Club’s course
was designed by Jack Nicklaus, however it is a
private club and membership is by invitation only.
The Grandfather Golf and Country Club is also a
private club, but boasts two championship courses
designed by Ellis Maples. The Mountain Glen Golf
Course in Newland is a semi-private course that has
been around since 1964. The towns of Beech
Mountain and Sugar Mountain also have golf clubs
that many residents and visitors to the area find
the time to enjoy throughout the warmer months.
In Boone and Blowing Rock, golfers love to play at
the Blowing Rock Golf Club and the Boone Golf Club.
Hound Ears Club has immaculate greens and a
challenging layout for everyone to enjoy.
Many visitors and residents will love being
able to see beautiful long range views and scenery
from the courses in the area. The climate of the
High Country areas makes golfing even more
enjoyable. With mild summer temperatures in the 70’s
and low 80’s, the High Country weather is perfect
for golfing. Hit the greens and enjoy all that the
