Beech Creek: Located east of Beech
Mountain, this is a hot spot for both
hatchery supported and wild trout. Since
it’s not heavily fished, this is arguably
one of the best streams in the High Country.

Boone’s Fork Creek: Running from the
Blue Ridge Parkway at Price Lake dam all the

The Middle Fork, New River: This is a
very popular spot in the Blowing Rock area
which originates at the Chetola Dam and runs
on to the South Fork. Locals tend to choose
the area around Aho Rd near where the
parkway crosses Hwy. 321. |

North Fork of the New River: About a
half hour from Boone is a great spot above
the dam on Route 88. Go through the Meat
Camp community to Sutherland Road. This is
where the river begins as two creeks come
together. Some monsters have been caught at
this spot. |

Watauga River: Originating in Foscoe
at the foot of Grandfather Mountain, this is
a fantastic river. Many a monster trout has
been taken in this river. There are many
great spots to fish the Watauga as it runs
along Hwy. 105 between Boone and Foscoe.
From Boone, head towards Banner Elk until
you go through the stop light at the Valle
Crucis turn off. The river is on your left
and there is room to park just off the road.
Going further up the road, you will see the
turn off to Hound Ears on your left. This is
another popular spot. Even further up the
road through the Foscoe community, you will
see a sign for a residential community
called Sleepy Hollow, turn left and go under
the covered bridge to find yet another good
spot. |

Another great location for small mouths is
just down river from the bridge on Hwy. 194.
To reach this hot spot from Boone turn right
at the light on Hwy. 105 which will put you
onto Hwy. 194, go past the Mast Store and
you will see the bridge. From that point on,
the fishing is terrific. |
