Cow Camp Creek: From Banner Elk, take
Hwy 105 south and take a right at the
stoplight onto Hwy 181 into the town of
Newland. Take a right at the stoplight then
a left at the next stoplight. Just past
Avery Hardware Store, take a right onto Old
Toe River road, go approx. 1 mile and take a
left on Cole Hollow Road. This great wild
trout stream will be on your left approx. ¾
mi. |

Horse Creek: This is a popular stream
for wild trout. Go south from Elk Park on
Hwy 19E approx. 4 miles. Turn right on Big
Horse Creek Road and go approx. ¾ miles. The
stream is on the left side of the road.

Lost Cove Creek: Located in the Lost
Cove Wilderness Area in the Pisgah National
Forest, this pristine area is a true
treasure. The terrain is rough and the deep
pools require chest waders. Take the Blue
Ridge Parkway south from Blowing Rock. Exit
onto Roseboro Road then take a right on
Timber Ridge Trail. The stream is toward the
end of the road on the right. Catch and
release only. |

North and South Harper Creeks: This
is quite a rugged area featuring miles of
rustic, strenuous trails. This area is
recommended for well conditioned fishermen
with quality outdoor gear including good
boots, compass and a trail map. It’s quite
easy to get lost if you don’t know the lay
of the land. Open year round, these streams
may only be fished with one hook artificial
lures. You are allowed to catch four trout
of at least 7 inches per day. Take Hwy 221
south out of Blowing Rock to Edgemont Road.

North Toe River: Take Hwy 19E approx.
ten miles to a point just past Cabin Lane.
This stream is fishable all the way to the
Mitchell county line. Hatchery supported.

Plumtree Creek: This is a good spot
for wild trout. Go south from Elk Park on
Hwy 19E approx. ten miles, turn left on Big
Plumtree Creek Road. The stream is on the
right approx. 1000 ft on Lick Log Road.

Roaring Creek: Another spot for wild
trout. Go south from Elk Park on Hwy 19E
approx. ten miles, turn right on Roaring
Creek Road. Go approx. 1 mile and you will
see the stream on the left. |

Toe River: This stream winds its way
through the town of Newland. Some locals say
that the best spot is where the river runs
along Hwy 194 inside the River Walk Park in
downtown Newland. According to a local
angler, a 20 pound brown was recently caught
at this spot using a worm. |

Wilson Creek: This is a catch and
release stream and is open year round. It’s
a pretty rough, steep area. Use one hook
artificial lures only. From Highway 221 near
Grandmother Mountain, turn onto SR 1514 and
follow to intersection with FS 192. Turn
right onto FS 192. This road crosses Wilson
and Andrews Creeks. Trails follow both
creeks. Open year round. Catch and Release
using one hook artificial hook only. |
