Boone’s first area mountain bike park will open it’s initial trail this Sunday, May 1st at 2 p.m. The culmination of a couple years worth of planning and development, Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park covers an area of 185 acres and when finished, will consist of a variety of terrain including highly technical, downhill-only trails as well as an A-Line style flow trail. A bike skills area at the park is also in the works.
The 1.6 mile long Rocky Branch Trail will be unveiled and opened to the public on Sunday, with two other trails scheduled to open later this year. When those are completed, 6.5 miles worth of terrain will be accessible to mountain bike enthusiasts. Thanks to more than 1,500 hours worth of volunteer work, these trails will be offered to the public at no cost!
The Rocky Knob Park is located on the outskirts of Boone, off of Highway 421 by the Food Lion shopping center. For more information about it, go to www.rockyknob.wordpress.com.
