Beech Mtn Named Host of Mtn Biking Nat’l Championships

Avid mountain bikers and cyclists get ready! Beech Mountain Resort is currently constructing a world class mountain biking facility in preparation for the next two years as it plays “host” to the USA Cycling Mountain Bike Gravity National Championships.  Resort general manager Ryan Costin let the cat out of the bag when he announced to local reporters and sources that the resort will play host during the 2011 and 2012 event.  He divulged the event information by saying, “We are pleased to host Gravity Nationals, while also producing a facility for all mountain bike enthusiasts”.  That means that the resort will become even more of a haven for mountain bikers and cyclists looking to enjoy the finest mountain biking routes in the state.

This is not the first time that Beech Mountain widely recognized for its mountain biking areas and routes.  Years ago, Lance Armstrong spent time training atop the mountain and in the High Country after beating cancer.  In his book, he fondly recounts how the townspeople and visitors that decided to come and watch the end of the training chanted and cheered him on, painting his name across the finish line.  We anticipate that Beech Mountain will continue to become a hotspot for Mountain Biking NC enthusiasts and cyclists from around the world.

Beech Mtn NC can be found in both Avery and Watauga Counties, but most portions lie within Avery.  It is known for being the highest unincorporated town east of the Mississippi River and boasts an elevation of 5,506 feet above sea level at its summit.  A famous ski resort, Beech Ski Resort sits atop the summit and the region is regarded as a four season play land with something for everyone to enjoy no matter what time of year it is.
